Manhattan 0191

New York has two main concentrations of high-rise buildings: Midtown Manhattan and Lower Manhattan, each with its own uniquely recognizable skyline.

This Painting is set in the evening red sunset light, casting cool blue shadows and dark reds, magenta and orange shadows – juxtaposition with the metallic gold glittering tops that resonate in the twilight.

Emotional Explosion.

To paint an artists needs to gather what has attracted and inspired him to paint it onto canvas.

The act of doing this is as different and as varied as your own fingerprint. Some like to sketch an almost photographic picture while others explore the expression and feel of a séance or portrait.

Having done both I prefer the excitement of a view to transfer itself through your emotions and direct onto the canvas by painting that first explosion of colours and almost abstract physical excitement at the sometime controlling the juxtaposition and contrast of darks and lights while letting them freely intermingle and clash in an extemporize and emotional composition.

The second and final phase is the architectural restructuring and emphasising of recognisable structure adding stokes and colour depth to emphasis and bring the painting to a meaningful conclusion, a work of art.

Baby with Bottle
During the 80s I was painting controversial art this was before Banksy was famous and before he started painting on canvas- because no collector wants to carry around a wall! Here is a small sample I have not painted over yet!

Bush-Blood on your hands
Now that the idea has spread like a virus I no longer feel such works can say anything new which has not been said before- so decided to paint over some canvases- which also prevents crafty entrepreneurs snatching from the skip- which have done before!
I thought I will show how an artist changes with the times and matures as we continue to improve and expand our ideals.

I hope to show the next development soon- which will lead to my more recent works which are Abstract and completely original in concept- they also sale a lot more as collectors realize the quality of work produced.

How to Select Matting and Framing

How to Select Matting and Framing:

Painting in the traditional way using oils in particular portraiture I was keen to try the new Acrylic paints that claim to be as good as oils.
Dianna Peal Dress
Excellent time saving ability, but was deeply disappointed with skin tones which always looked inferior to the oil paints aesthetic glowing ability.
Quickly realizing that Acrylic were more suited to exploring and design. Started to experiment more into abstract expressionism and colour reinitialized discovering discords in various shapes and colour abstract contrast. Because of the use of water and its quantity playing a large role in my work I found that its watercolour quality was not as good as watercolour on canvas so changed to watercolour paper which suited my speed of painting and decided to experiment with ink which gave a more intense brighter colour on paper.
Composing with colour become much more fluid and began to consider the positive and negative space and how the less interference with a brush and more self believe in the quality of tools you can create weight and visual balance of colours, achieving different harmonies, dynamic contrast or discords in the composition.
Jhon Cleese
Allowing colour to find its own natural dispersion and withdrawing any interference become antagonizes and juggling the different colour relationships to achieve harmony becomes passive at variance with its adjacent colour area. What looked like an abstract when adding an horizon for the eye to settle on, and allow the brain to accept it as a seascape or sunset landscape was able to stimulate the illusion of light by juxtaposition of colour stains and accidental dispersion and intermingling of colours.
Experiment with the horizon line Scratch interference colours or applying genuine gold is in process, using acrylic inks, paints and watercolours on paper and canvas.
